Linux lopettaa i486 tukemisen

After the Linux kernel dropped i386 support a decade ago, i486 has been the minimum x86 processor support for the mainline Linux kernel. This latest attempt to kill off i486 support ultimately arose from Linus Torvalds himself with expressing the idea of possible requiring x86 32-bit CPUs with "cmpxchg8b" support, which would mean Pentium CPUs and later:

Linuxissa harkitaan Intel 486 tukemisen lopettamista. 486 on antiikkinen prosessori ja sille tuskin on paljon käyttöä missään. Jo joku 90-luvun Pentiumikin rupeaa olemaan antiikkia. Melkein kannattaisi lopettaa tuki kaikelle ennen vuoden 2000 koneille sillä ei niitä enää kukaan käytä. Olisi paljon helpompaa kehittää kaikkea kun ei tarvitsisi huolehtia antiikkisista arkkitehtuureista.

Google TPUV4

Google has been trickling out information about the TPUv4 architecture for several years without being terribly specific about the feeds and speeds of the system. But we talked to some of the people behind the TPU effort and also poured over research papers and technical presentations to bring it all together to put together an overview of the four generations of TPU compute engines and the systems that make use of them. Where we could not find out information, we made what we reckon are intelligent guesses as is our habit.
